There are two major, long-standing juried exhibitions in our region that exist to showcase the best visual art the region has to offer. The longest running one, the Artists of the Mohawk Hudson Region, is in its 79th year and includes most mediums. The other, the Photo Regional, now in its 37th year, began as a way to give photographers a place to show at a time when photography still struggled to be considered "art."

Although times have changed and it's accepted that photography is a valid medium for art-making, the tradition of the Photo Regional continues to give photographers the spotlight. There is not much cross-over between this exhibit and last year's painting-heavy Mohawk Hudson Regional — only two names stand out as having been included in both shows: Jim Allen and Julie Pamkowski. Perhaps that fact alone suggests a continued need for the Photo Regional's existence.
